New camera?

Recently my trusty old Nikon Coolpix 5200 is starting to get cranky. Sometimes you can’t press the shutter button. It will just jam. You will need to turn in off and on a few times, say a little prayer and try again. And sometimes if you don’t pray hard enough, it still does not work. So, you need to try again and again…

And so, this leads me to a search for a new camera. The choices out there now is just mind-boggling! With so many to choose from, I hardly know where to begin. Well, the most obvious place to start in this internet age is… GOOGLE!!! So, I googled for “camera review” and found this site!

But still the choices are mind boggling. So, I sought out a friend who is a real photography enthusiast. He recommended the Canon S90. Price range is about RM1.6K!!! OK… if I add on a few hundred bucks more, I should be able to get an entry level DSLR. But he sang the praises of this Canon S90!

Then I got thinking. I am obviously not a professional photographer like him. I would really like to take nice pictures, if possible nicer than the shots I am taking now with my Nikon. So, do I need all these extra features that this Canon S90 has? Or is there another model out there that is more suitable for me? Also, the review for this model said it really sucks for taking photos with the Macro function. This function I use quite often as I take lots of close up pictures for my ebay business. Is this model really suitable for me?

So, I am still reading reviews online before I narrow down to a few models that I think I like. Then I am heading to the shops to try it out first hand. If anyone has some great suggestions, please do share with me.
